All the new features coming in Train Sim World 6

Back on the 26th of August, Dovetail Games announced Train Sim World 6, marking the 6th yearly release of the train simulator. Here’s everything we know that’s coming with Train Sim World 6, along with its future content.

Routes

Train Sim World 6 will come in three editions, just like in previous years. Each edition comes with its own selection of routes, but most of the included routes in each edition aren’t actually new. The new routes for Train Sim World 6 are:

[Standard Edition] Riviera Line | Exeter – Plymouth & Paignton

[Standard Edition] Morristown Line | New York & Hoboken – Dover

[Standard Edition] Bahnstrecke Leipzig – Dresden.

Locomotives

New locomotives are where things get a bit more complicated when it comes to the edition of the game. The new locomotives are designed for the new routes, however, they aren’t actually included in the standard version of the simulator, which does include the routes.

[Deluxe Edition] CrossCountry BR Class 220

First up is the CrossCountry BR Class 220, which adds additional services on the Rivera Line. You can also use the train on free roam routes.

[Deluxe Edition] NJ TRANSIT® ALP-45DP

Next is the NJ TRANSIT® ALP-45DP, which adds additional services on the Morristown Line. There’s also Free Roam possibilities on the NEC: New York – Trenton line.

[Deluxe Edition] DB BR 294

And lastly is the DB BR 294, which adds additional shunting services on the Leipzig – Dresden route. You can also use the train on free roam routes.

So to summarize, if you purchase the Standard Edition of Train Sim World 6, you’ll get all three routes, and three base locomotives. The additional locomotives listed above will require you to purchase the Deluxe Edition.

New Core Features

Train Sim World 6 features 3 main new features aside from routes.

Random Events

Train Sim World now has two types of random events when playing:

  • Signal delays: When this event occurs, signals will take longer to update to reflect human-operation for updating signal clearance. Dovetail notes that this will only usually be a few seconds wait time, but due to the knock on effect, this can cause a knock on effect.
  • Temporary Speed Restrictions: Safety speed restrictions will now be randomly placed along a route, causing moments where you’ll need to adjust your speed for a short section of track. When loading into a route, players will be given a briefing to outline where all the temporary speed restrictions will be, so you can plan ahead.

Importantly, you’ll be able to disable random events from within the simulators settings.

Train Faults

Train Faults are another new feature coming to Train Sim World 6. Having this option enabled will result in your train occasionally having an equipment failure. There’s currently 4 types of failures, depending on if your train supports them. They are:

  • Wiper failures
  • Lighting Failures
  • Tilting Failures (on trains with tilting systems)
  • Turbo failures (on trains with turbo systems)

When a failure appears, players will be given steps on how to resolve the issue. This may sometimes require you to leave the driver’s seat to reset a breaker.

Announcements

A highly requested feature throughout the Train Sim World releases has been announcements, and they’re finally coming to Train Sim World 6, in the form of both on-board and station announcements.

You might be wondering if you’ll be able to hear these announcements when driving, and the answer is yes, if you choose to. Dovetail have added an optional, toggleable speaker inside the cab in the Settings Menu, so that anyone wanting to hear announcements whilst they’re in the cab can do so. Dovetail has provided a short video showing off this feature below.

Editions

Now that we’ve summed up the content coming to Train Sim World 6, it’s time to talk about editions. First up, the free starter pack.

Free Starter Pack

Like in previous years, there is a free starter pack available. This pack allows new players to get a feel fore TSW, and gives access only to the train center route, along with unbranded versions of the Class 66, 8F Steam Locomotive, Class 323, BR 146 + Dostos, and SD40-2 Diesel.

This pack is additionally available to owners of previous Train Sim Worlds, and allows you to play Train Sim World 6 with any routes you own in older titles, you just won’t receive the new routes and trains as you would if you purchased the standard edition and up.

However, just like last year, there’s a catch. This starter pack will only be available from 6 weeks from the release date (September 30th to November 11th 2025), after which point you’ll need to purchase the simulator to get any of the new core features and fixes.
