Dovetail give new insights on Leipzig route for TSW5

Train Sim World 5 was announced back on the 26th of August, and releases November 11th 2025, and over the next few weeks, Dovetail is going to be providing insights into each new route, and we’ll be here to sum them up for you.

This week’s route insight is Bahnstrecke Leipzig – Dresden, which is an extension from the previously released Dresden – Riesa Add-on route. This new route is included with the standard edition of the simulator, though to receive the DB BR 294, you’ll need to purchase the Deluxe edition or higher.

Route

As we just mentioned, this route is an extension to the previous add-on release, and in total, the total route length is now at 160 KM, which is one of the longest routes available. Dovetail has listed the following new features that the route will include:

  • NEW 65 km extension from Riesa to Leipzig, including 20 NEW Stations
  • NEW addition of 13 km Dresden-Coswig line
  • NEW Friedrichstadt Marshalling Yard
  • NEW green stripe variant of the DB BR 411 ICE-T
  • NEW Platform & Passenger Announcements (TSW6 Feature)
  • NEW Random Events in service mode (TSW6 Feature)
  • NEW Train Faults (TSW6 Feature)
  • Updated DB BR 442 featuring Suspension Updates
  • Dresden-Riesa Entitlement preserving layers for other TSW routes

Dovetail also notes that all players of Bahnstrecke Leipzig – Dresden will receive entitlements to the previously released Dresden – Riesa route Add-on. Given that this new route will be available to all those that purchase the standard edition of the simulator, anyone that purchases TSW6 will get access to this add-on as well.

They also note that the standalone Dresden – Riesa route Add-on will not be available to purchase separately for Train Sim World 6.

DB BR 294

We then get a preview of the trains included in this route. First up is the new DB BR 294 ‘V 90’ Shunter, which is included in the Deluxe and Special Edition versions of the simulator.

This loco was originally known as the V 90 series, and were build in the 1960s and 1970s as heavy shunting locomotives. Their weight and power makes them suitable for shunting long trains, but also transporting wagons between locations. In the 1990s, a fleet overhaul saw 290 of these locos rebuilt and reclassified as the BR 294, which is the version in TSW6.

Despite the age of these locos, many of them can still be found working today in Germany. Dovetail notes that in the Bahnstrecke Leipzig – Dresden route, the BR 294 will work to assemble freight consists in the various yards along the 160km route, with some main line movement between facilities.

Finally, the BR 294 comes equipped with PZB and Sifa. There is also a Throttle Lock, which Dovetail notes is highlighted by the Driver Assist prompts.

DB BR 411 ICE-T

We then move over to the DB BR 411 ICE-T, a returning train to the train sim world series. ICE-T units have been in service across Germany since 1999, and feature a tiling function allowing the train to tilt at a maximum of 8 degrees. This tiling function also has its own monitoring system that needs to be enabled in order for the tiling function to work. The system, GNT, also works with other safety systems installed such as the PZB, LZB, and Sifa.

Included in this route is a new livery variant for the train, which includes a green stripe depicting DB’s “Das ist grün” campaign. Dovetail also make a note that this train is included in the Bahnstrecke Leipzig – Dresden route, and that players do not need to own previously released content to access this train.

DB BR 442

Next is another returning train, the BR 442 ‘Talent 2’, which was built by Bombardier back in 2009. There’s only one update for this train on the new route, and that’s that the variant for the Bahnstrecke Leipzig – Dresden route has been updated to include in-game Suspension.

DB BR 185, DB BR 146.2, DB BR 143, and DB BR 363 ‘V 60’ Shunter.

We then have the DB BR 185, DB BR 146.2, DB BR 143, and DB BR 363 ‘V 60’ Shunter. Dovetail hasn’t provided any updates to any of these trains so we’ve combined them all into one section.

Just like with the previous trains, the DB BR 185 and DB BR 146.2 are included in the Bahnstrecke Leipzig – Dresden route, and players do not need to own previously released content to access this train.

In addition, the inclusion of the Dresden – Riesa add-on for everyone that purchases TSW6 means that the DB BR 143 and DB BR 363 ‘V 60’ Shunter will also be available to drive on the route.

And that sums up today’s preview. Join us next week when we’ll go over the next route preview published by Dovetail. Train Sim World 6 releases November 11th 2025 and can be pre-ordered now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam.
