Dovetail preview Morristown Line for TSW6

Train Sim World 6 was announced on the 26th of August, and last week, Dovetail previewed the new up-and-coming Leipzig route included with the simulator. This week, we get a preview of the American line included, the Morristown Line.

Route

The Morristown Line route will run from New York & Hoboken to Dover. The line itself dates back to the 1830s, running Morristown–Rockaway, and later being extended from Rockaway-Dover. The line runs through both dense urban areas, along with more suburban areas, and will cover 40 miles in the simulator.

One of the terminus on this route is New York Penn station, which serves up to 600,000 passengers per day, being the busiest rail station in North America. Another station on this route which is modelled by Dovetail games is Hoboken, which is the 12th busiest station in North America.

Dovetail also notes that all the stations in this route will feature the new platform announcements, which are new in Train Sim World 6. We covered this feature here.

Train Sim World 6 Morristown Line Overview

Various stations along the route will also contain Bridge Plate Collectibles. In the real world, these are ramps used by railroad staff to allow for easier access for passengers between platforms and trains.

Locomotives

NJ TRANSIT® Arrow III EMU

Train Sim World 6 Morristown Line Arrow III

New to the Train Sim World series is the primary loco on this route, the Arrow III EMU. These EMU’s entered service back in 1977, and feature fairly basic livery designs featuring only the NJ Transit logo, stripes, and the American Flag.

Dovetail also points out that Hoboken Division Arrow III’s are denoted by a 25K sticker on each cab end, showing that they are set up for 25kV use, as opposed to Newark Division’s 12kV electrification.

The Arrow III’s also have simpler controls than most trains, as there is only a handle that turns for both forward and brake, with no reverser.

ALP-46 locomotive

Train Sim World 6 ALP-46

The ALP-46 is a returning train to the Train Sim World series, and was first seen in the Northeast Corridor: New York – Trenton route, released back in 2023. These locos offer push-pull express services out of New York Penn, with downbound trains hauled by the locomotive and upbound trains led by the commuter cab car.

It doesn’t look like there will be any significant changes to this loco compared to when it was first introduced on the previously mentioned route, though Dovetail does note that Conductor Mode and Passenger Announcements will be available.

Dovetail also make a note that this train is included in the Morristown Line route, and that players do not need to own previously released content (NEC: New York – Trenton) to access this train.

ALP-45DP

Train Sim World 6 ALP-45DP

Next up is another new loco, the ALP-45DP, though this particular train is only available to Deluxe and Special Edition Train Sim World 6 players, though it will also be available to purchase separately after the release.

The ALP-45DP entered service back in 2010, and is fitted with both a pantograph and diesel engine for dual-mode operation, making the loco suitable for New Jersey’s unelectrified lines.

In the simulator, this changeover takes place for both AI and user controlled trains at Newark Broad Street, and will require the user to complete a sequence of tasks while stationary, similar to how the Class 395 Javelin works on the UK Southeastern Highspeed route.

Dovetail also notes that the roof at Hoboken is copper-lined, and raising the pantographs in real life brings a risk of arcing. Signage is in place around the route ahead of Newark Broad Street to denote the changeover of power.

Conductor Mode will also be available using the same coaches and cab car hauled by the ALP-46 loco. Additionally, players that own the Northeast Corridor: New York – Trenton route will have additional timetables available to them.

Unbranded SD40-2 locomotive

While not directly related to this route, Dovetail did include it in their blog post, and noted that included for all Train Sim World 6 players is an unbranded SD40-2 loco in the training center. This loco is not in timetable mode on the Morristown Line, but can be spawned in using Free Roam. Dovetail state that they have included this to allow players to get familiar with American train operations.

Train Sim World 6 SD40-2

And that sums up today’s preview. Join us next week when we’ll go over the next route preview published by Dovetail. Train Sim World 6 releases November 11th 2025 and can be pre-ordered now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam.
