Not long ago, Giants Software provided a preview of the Fishing mechanic for the upcoming Kinlaig map on the Highlands Fishing DLC, and today they’ve previewed the map itself.
The new map is based in Scotland and is called Kinlaig. The map provides areas for forestry, farming, and sea fishing, with the latter being able to take place on the shore or out in the sea.

One of the central parts of the map is the town, which is mostly a classic Scottish town featuring brick houses and brick roads, along with general Scottish architecture. One of the screenshots below provided by Giants also shows Christmas lights around the town, which we suspect will likely be dynamic depending on the in-game month.

Scotland is also known for its castles in the real world, and Giants have also modelled in two castles, one in town, and one outside. The latter sounds like players will be able to repair, as Giants state it’s in desperate need of renovation. While they don’t specifically mention it can be player repaired, we suspect this will be a little like the Rollercoaster back in Farming Simulator 22.

There also seems to be a unique collectable on this map – bottles. Giants state that there are a few ship wrecks found around the map, and along with that, messages in bottles. They state that there are dozens of them to find and read, and once you collect of them, they are collected in a book at the castle you can read through. This may also suggest that the castle will have some kind of interior to it. This mechanic seems to be new, as I don’t think we have previously seen a book UI like in the screenshots below.

We then have a couple of screenshots of the nature around the map. These areas look particularly good for logging operations.

Lastly, in this preview, we have a couple of screenshots regarding the fishing areas. We covered how fishing works a few backs here, though these screenshots also show some professional grade fishing equipment. If you look closely, you’ll also see that it appears this map has custom AI traffic, as you can stop a Black Cab in one of the images.

And that’s all for todays preview. Giants do state that there will be an upcoming article focusing on fishing, which we’ll be sure to also cover here.
The Highlands Fishing Expansion releases November 4th for both PC and Consoles, and will cost roughly $31 (€26.99), making it one of the most expensive DLCs for the Farming Simulator series, ever. You can preorder it here.
If you don’t yet own Farming Simulator 25 there is a special Highlands Fishing Edition which costs the same price as the base game, but with the DLC included. You can find this here.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on this DLC in the comments, and whether you’ll be picking this DLC up, given it’s quite the change from most other Farming Simulator DLCs!
