Police Simulator: Patrol Officers has just received a new open beta, introducing the self-defence update, which is due to publicly launch on September 17th, 2025. The update brings gun Usage, spotlights as a gadget, radio chatter, new uniforms, the accident pack, and more.
Gun Usage
To start with, the update finally adds Gun Usage to the simulator. Previously, players were heavily restricted with the firearm only being used to make a suspect surrender, however, you were unable to actually fire the weapon.
This has changed in the 19.0 update, as players will now actually be required to use their weapon in certain situations thanks to a new criminal danger level.
When approaching a criminal, their level of danger is now constantly influenced by a randomizer. This can cause some citizens to either flee, carry an illegal weapon in their inventory, or trigger a number of other actions. Every criminal in the game now has a chance to be spawned as a particularly dangerous criminal.
If the randomizer does determine that a citizen is a criminal of a high level, they may draw their weapon.

When a criminal does draw a weapon, and you aim yours back, they’ll be highlighted in one of two colors, indicating the level of threat they pose to you.
- Yellow Outline: The suspect has drawn their gun, but is not yet actively hostile. Players must attempt to de-escalate by demanding the suspect surrender. Firing your weapon is not permitted and will result in a penalty of CP points. Criminals may take time to comply or verbally resist before giving up.
- Red Outline: The criminal has refused to surrender and is now considered an active threat. At this point, players are authorized to fire their weapon. There is a chance the criminal may also shoot back at the player during this state.
If the criminal does shoot back at the player, they can only be shot three times. After this, players will become critically injured and the shift will automatically end.
In addition to this, citizens of Brighton (the fictional town the simulator is set in), may now carry a concealed weapon permit with them, which allows a citizen to carry a weapon instead of the previous note that was visible on their ID.
Spotlights
The 19.0 update to Police Simulator: Patrol Officers also adds some highly requested player suggestions, such as spotlights as a gadget. This means players can now equip them to any car and use them throughout their shift through the gadget wheel, rather than just being limited to the Matrix Sign.
Radio Chatter
Radio Chatter has now been implemented and will be audible in the background of patrol cars. This should up the immersion of the simulator, making the world feel much more alive.
Uniform Swapping
Players can now swap their uniform right from the back of their patrol car’s trunk, however, in order to do this players will first need to choose a pre-set of individual uniforms.
New DLC
While not directly related to the update, the developers provided a glimpse at upcoming DLC for the simulator.
First up is the accident skin pack, which gives players everything they need to handle accident scenes. Included in the DLC is reflective clothing, an optional orange light bar for police vehicles, a multipurpose responder vehicle equipped with a bigger trunk for transporting more tools, and dedicated police vehicle skins for accident response.

And then there’s three upcoming uniform packs:
- The East Coast Police Uniform Pack contains 5 uniforms from New York City, New Hampshire, and Fairfax County.
- The South Atlantic Police Uniform Pack contains 6 uniforms from Florida, Georgia, and West Virginia.
- The Western Police Uniform Pack contains 6 uniforms from Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Austin.

It’s important to note that the developers make clear that the uniform packs are not part of the season pass and require a separate purchase, however, the accident skin pack is a part of the season pass.
If you don’t yet own Police Simulator: Patrol Officers, you can purchase it on steam here.
