This post is a bit different from our usual content, however, given its severity it seems like a good PSA to our readers.
Unity, a game engine used by many games and simulators, recently announced a security vulnerability in the engine. The TL;DR of the exploit is that it results in any end user being susceptible to unsafe file loading and local file inclusion attack, essentially meaning someone could enable local code execution.
This exploit goes all the way back to Unity version 2017.1 and later, and requires all game developers to update their games in order to patch. Some simulators and games that we cover, such as Cities Skylines II, have already received patches to fix this exploit.
It’s recommend you update any games that have updates available to them to fix this issue are updated, although there has been no known use of this exploit yet.
